Wow, it’s been so long since we posted on our own blog! Shocking, disgraceful, lagging! Let’s catch up. In late Summer and Fall of 2022 I ran for a seat in the Oregon State legislature. It was an experience, a challenge a number of lessons learned and quite a shocking bit of confirmation bias confirmed.
New Calves!
Yay! Calving season is upon us! The first was Tuesday the 24th, a heifer calf named. . . Tuesday. The second was on Memorial Day. I haven’t seen if it’s a bull or heifer yet. If it’s a boy it is Meme (mem-me) and if it’s a girl then it’s Meme (me-me). It’s a good
What was that?
Weasel, Otter, Mink? It was a mink. It ran across the yard, through the goose fence and I lost sight of it when Gonker went on the attack. I don’t know where it went, It was headed for the creek. I’ll have to do some research about what to do/how to get it. . .
Baby Birds
We got some chicks to brood from Wilco yesterday. This year it’s Color Pack and I got five Rhode Island Reds that were overstock and only $1.00 each. Good deal! Boy watched Crystal as she lifted each chick out of the box and set them in the brooder. He was so worked up! He wasn’t
Started Tomatoes

Red pointy plums with thick flesh and skin. Its viney plants grow tall enough for a trellis, and yield very late into the season. We will dry for winter use. When
Yummy Frank
Picked up Frank today from Sharp’s Custom Cutting in Hubbard. Crystal does well with the cut sheet. Our yield is 81% from hanging weight. I am looking forward to the yummy, yummy beef.Today was processing day for
Seed Orders

Two Years In
There are some things to smile about the past two years. For instance, we saw this at Freddie’s last January. Or Boy checking on his baby chicks. He was hilarious. Every morning he wanted to go into the workshop and check on them. As they got bigger he seemed to gain a lot of joy
Accidental Quail
We had been here a few years before we saw the first pair of quail. It was the year after the neighbors clear cut. It started with just one pair, running crazily along the driveway as they do, the female dodging one direction and the male trying to lead us away from her the opposite.
Rain, Almost
Close! The National Weather Service says Rain starting Friday! Yay! I am excited. That week of extreme heat burnt a lot around the farm. It put the pastures down hard. When Crystal called our hay suppliers one said he normally gets eight tons an acre, but this year the yield was only two . .
