Tiny eggs

2014_11_03_tinyeggs

For a few weeks now, we’ve been getting a tiny, perfect egg every day.  Our adult hens are all molting, so we’re actually having to buy eggs… (We have over 30 chickens, and we’re buying eggs!)  The pullets were only 22 weeks old, so we thought that one of our adult hens was pushing out a small egg during her molt.

Today, we discovered the truth.  The pullet we call “Long Tail” was so eager to get into the chicken coop this morning, that she blasted past the adult hens on their way out.  She had no fear of being pecked; she was on a mission.  A few minutes later a tiny hot egg was in the nesting box, and she was hungrily eating at the feeder!  What a good little hen!
