Honey from the driveway

honeyA few months after we moved into our new place, thousands of bees moved into the abandoned hive on the side of the driveway.  Greer saw the swarm in the sky that day; he says it looked like a huge, golden, sparkly cloud.

The bees immediately got to work, and were very busy in our kitchen garden this summer.  One of our landlord’s friends keeps bees, so he came to harvest the honey and fix up the hive a little (pictured above).  He gave us a jar right away with honeycomb and honey.  We will keep the beeswax from that for future projects.  Today, we received another jar of rich, dark honey that was made only 400 feet away!
