Compost Pile

We are thrilled to have a compost area in our new kitchen garden.  Following farming and gardening expert Eliot Coleman’s advice, we set up the compost area with walls made from old hay bales. (You can also use straw; we got our hay for free.)  Greer left room for air flow, but the hay helps insulate the compost, causing it to work faster.  We had been saving stuff to compost from yard and coop clean-ups, so we already have a good start!  It will be nice to make our own compost on a larger scale.2014-05-19_compost
