In middle and high school, when we went to the computer lab, we almost exclusively played a game called The Oregon Trail. The game required you to plan and execute a trip west, shooting game along the way, losing all your supplies while fording rivers, and most often, dying of dysentery.
I never would have guessed while playing that game, that this many years later I would be living this close to the actual end of the Oregon Trail. Hey, I finally made it! Maybe all that practice helped, because I’m not sure I actually ever successfully completed the game.
Interestingly, my coworker told me that something called “The Oregon Trail Generation” has been popping up on Twitter recently, meaning those of us who are too young to be Gen Xers and too old to be Millennials (and who played a lot of Oregon Trail at school).
