Nesting Madness

The new coop has three nesting boxes, but the chickens never use the one in the middle.  We have fake “inspiration” eggs (wooden) that they often move between the two boxes.  I don’t think I’ve seen any of them in the middle box at all.

I noticed that the hens were happily scratching the straw around into a nest-shape, but leaving the bottom of the nesting box bare.  I thought this made the eggs more susceptible to breakage, so I bought some “nesting pads” at the local farm store.  Within a few days, the chickens had “stolen” the nesting material from the middle box to make the end boxes even fluffier and more comfy.  Silly girls!
