Dehydrating Oranges

I had never eaten dehydrated oranges, but I saw some for sale at the Farmer’s Market a few weeks ago.  When Farmer Pete gave us “as many oranges as we could carry” in last week’s CSA, I decided to try it for myself.  I peeled them and cut them into segments and slices.  It was pretty time consuming, but I had the treat of drinking the orange juice that accumulated on the cutting board to keep me going.  (Fresh-squeezed orange juice is one of my favorite treats!)  It took them a long time in the dehydrator… about 20 hours.  I processed about a dozen oranges, and the result is a half-gallon jar full of chewy, orangey snacks.  They taste lovely and fresh, definitely reminiscent of the juicy oranges they came from!
