Last Produce of the Year

Well, it’s the day before Thanksgiving, and I’m eating watermelon from our garden.  It was the last of our produce for the year, and I was reluctant to cut into it, thinking it might be pale mush or rotten inside.  We grew the  Moon and Stars variety from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds.  It didn’t get as bright red as the picture, and wasn’t syrupy sweet like some watermelon, but it was nice.  It was especially nice in late November when I was able to savor the end of summer and be truly thankful for a good harvest this year.
