Let the molting begin! So, Ethel and Strawberry have begun their first molt. The Storey book says that chickens will molt every year. Molting is the replacement of their feathers, all of them. The Storey book also said they will drop the old feathers and have pinfeathers, then full feathers. They may look like porcupines during the process. It also says they may drop the old feathers all at once, or slowly in stages, the process may cause they to be cranky. . .ahh delightful.
You can see in the photo that Ethel has some missing feathers on her neck, like someone at Supercuts made an oops with the electric razor. . .
