Oregon Road Trip Day 6: Portland

We got to visit Powell’s City of Books!  Talk about overwhelm.  I could spend days in there.  I couldn’t even remember what books are on my list for next purchase!  We did buy some ultra-cool posters for the dining room, however.  We’d seen them online before, and were thrilled to find them!

We also visited the Portland Rose Garden.  They have 510 varieties of roses!

We had a coupon to stay at a Hilton hotel, so we chose this night for that.  It was nice to crash out and not have to set up camp!  Also, we could watch TV (we don’t have cable at home), so we watched a bunch of Restaurant Impossible episodes on the Food Network.  So fun.

We finally roamed out for dinner to try the famous food carts.  WE FOUND A PALEO CART.  I cannot overemphasize how exciting this was.  It is very difficult to eat out because of our dietary needs, and we usually end up eating things that make us feel sick.  So, at the Cultured Caveman, we could pig out with no guilt and no pain!

We basically had everything on the menu: grass fed beef chili (no beans), chicken tenders (coconut flour, fried in beef tallow), beet salad with walnuts, ginger carrot kale salad, and bacon almond dates.  Wowza.  So yummy.  And… then we needed to cheat:

We wanted to try the very popular Salt & Straw ice cream shop because of its gourmet flavors.  Here are the crazy good flavors we shared:

1. Chocolate with gooey brownie
2. Blueberry with key lime marmalade
3. Pear with blue cheese (from Rogue Creamery)
4. Chèvre with marionberry habañero jam
