The early Spring Garden

We tried a few experiments with row covers over the Winter. We had bush beans, lettuce and onions under 6-mil clear plastic. We sowed the bush beans mid-October. We planted the onions from sets Crystal grew from seed. The lettuce was a cut-and-come-again variety from Renee’s Garden out in Felton.

I think the problem was we sowed seeds three weeks too late. They weren’t well enough established before the cold stunted them. You can see the short green leafed bush beans in half the raised beds. That is four months in the soil. . .

These carrots over Wintered nicely though. They were a mix of Cosmic Purple, Yellow and Orange carrots mostly Baker Creek and Botanical Interest seeds. I harvested them in March and they were tasty!
